Iceland August 2015… Mind blowing!

I was very lucky to travel around northern Iceland with two friends last week, searching for some seriously amazing Char and Brown Trout, in just the most stunning surroundings…

Just back from a weeks flyfishing in Norway fishing the River Trysil. The trip was organised by Keith Wallington (read his blog on the trip here) through Ole Bjerke who’s website has many mouth watering destinations in Norway

What an amazing trip, everything went smoothly, the self catering cabin was superb (dish washer!), cost of food wasn’t too scary, but the cost of beer meant you enjoyed every mouth full! Anders is the owner of the fishing, who was hugely friendly and helpful.

We had 6km of river for the five of us to fish and grayling was our main quarry. The fly hatches meant we caught the majority on dries. We also fished a 2km lake on one windy day for pike and another smaller pond (both included in the price) for prehistoric brown trout!

If you like truly wild fishing for grayling and the odd trout in amazing wild scenery Norway is the place for you!

Chalkstream dreams……

One of the greatest rewards you can ever get from fishing is listening to another anglers fishing story, just look at their grin, the excitement, a piscatorial Christmas morning any day of the year, that’s what we call “Chalkstream Dreams”…….

The Frome is so low, Libs asked if it was going to “run out of water” and so clear, seriously hard fishing, seriously hard, blend in, vanish into the background, you need to be totally invisible… Sit and observe, watch, don’t move, then after two hours or longer that chosen fish drops back, you dare not breathe, blink, let alone cast a fly, heart pounding…. a glimpse of white, a slight head shake …fish on….

These guys who fished here today were great, away from the Wandle brook in London, nice guys, passionate about chalkstreams, and sharing those stories, those great fishing stories… They came to the FROME and caught a few wild fish…….

Oh what a fish a truely wild fish, and then they went on to get another, and a monster Grayling…… they come to those who wait……

Seriously happy days….  Two very different wild fish caught on our home beat……..

Nymphing, Grayling and smiles…

I walked our fishing here at the Dairy House last night with some friends, chatting, looking and taking pictures, but silently behind the fairly brisk conversation and kids running round having fun, I was thinking to myself about the photo shoot, and promotion work that we were to do today, low crystal clear water and fish that can see you before you even leave the house…. A challenge to say the least….

We were to cope….

One of the topics of conversation today was the great people you meet, the places you visit and on the odd occasion the fish you catch, even when you have a lifetime of fishing behind you, doing it for a living…. The odd very special fish can turn up, and on a photo shoot………… Smiles all round!

Henry Gilbey I have known for a few years now and takes some rather fine angling pictures came along to get some pictures of proper wild chalk stream fishing and Nick Hart  came along to fish, and catch a monster Grayling for the camera…………..!!!!!!!

We ate well, caught a few, and laughed for most of the day, thanks guys!

We are taking bookings for our fishing and rather fine accommodation, ring us at the Dairy House and chat with us, John or Andrea on 01305 257490

It takes a hell of a lot to make me fed up!!!! but three months of rain, a worn out mower, four days in bed with the FLU come on…. OH and a speeding ticket!!!! (How can you get a speeding ticket in a LANDROVER?, they must be short of real criminals in Dorset!!!)

On a slightly more cheerful note look at this fella, going to catch one one day and one of the others!!!!!(Or failing that, looks like were off to Florida in Oct in search of some Bill Fish..)

Pics taken in Malaysia, lets set of on an angling mystery tour!!!!
Or at least dream of one until the weather improves.

Florida here we come, Scott with a huge Permit….
