Electric fishing

Today we did a pre works quantitive fish population survey for the Dorset Wildlife Trust, it was a text book day, with lots of people totally passionate about chalkstream restoration…  A huge thank you to all involved!

This survey marks the beginning of a grand chalkstream enhancement in the centre of Dorchester, keep an eye on our blog to see how the project is progressing over the coming weeks.

Despite the low flows…

Despite the desperately low flows on or in all our rivers in the south west of England, the river Frome is still fishing well, during the day and last thing at night with various Sedge patterns.

Check out the DFC website we still have three day tickets left…..

We have been very busy on our Dorset chalkstreams, they are all stunning and great value for money!

Please ring to book your fishing and accommodation for now and next year- John the river keeper on 01305 257490

Holidays in Dorset

The Dairy House Annexe West Stafford

Self Catering Accommodation

If you are looking for an excuse to get away for a few days, in a rather special, unspoilt part of English countryside, in a quiet rural location in Dorset.

Add on a little secluded chalkstream fishing and a fantastic village pub, which is only a short walk away……………….

West Stafford is a quintessentially English Village located just downstream of Dorchester in the heart of Thomas Hardy country.  Criss-crossed with old water meadow systems and of course the famous river Frome, an incredibly quiet, rural location, you would say “Far from the Madding Crowd”.

I have worked on the river Frome for the best part of thirty years, and managed the fishing here at the Dairy House for over twenty years, we are very privileged to live and work here in Dorset and we look forward to sharing the beauty of the Frome valley with you.

The Annexe

The annexe is next to our farmhouse home and offers comfortable relaxed self catering accommodation with rather beautiful views over the water meadows, and importantly, only a short walk to the home beat on the river Frome.

We offer one or two week holidays, weekend or mid week breaks or the Annexe by the night, subject to availability.

Our spacious self catering annexe will sleep up to four people; there are two bedrooms one with a double bed and the other has two single beds, a new modern bath / shower room, large kitchen / dining room and a lounge with a door leading to your own private patio area, with furniture and a barbecue, just perfect for cooking the catch of the day, whilst surrounded with pretty cottage gardens and country views.

We supply all  bedding and towels for your stay with us.

There is an open fire in the lounge and we keep a good supply of logs.
