1 Fly River Test

I left for the test at about 5.30am on Friday, driving into a stunning sunrise as I headed up the Avon valley before cutting across to the Peatspade Inn within the Test valley for the 1 Fly  gathering, briefing, breakfast and to meet up with our contestants.

33 of the uks top chalk stream guides and 33 contestants we headed off in different directions to our allocated beats and fished with 1 fly……….

My contestant fished really well catching fish and retaining his chosen fly all morning, and the lunch time scores showed us in second place!

The afternoon started well, 5 releases within an hour, we were flying, at 2.30pm we had to change beats, conditions changed and we struggled for another fish.

Back to the Peatspade Inn for the final scoring and de brief…….we were 5th out of 33……..we were pleased, very pleased and I won’t even mention the fish that were lost…….

I have to say I chose the right fly for the day, and my angler had a bonus 100 points for keeping the same fly for the whole day.

A superb day, already looking forward to next year.
