    Dorchester Fishing Club / Fishing for Schools raffle

    This year the famous Dorchester Fishing Club is celebrating its 140th Birthday…  At the coming AGM and dinner we will be holding a grand raffle to raise money for the fabulous charity “Fishing for Schools

    Raffle tickets will be on sale before and are available to all persons keen to support, you can e mail me  or ring me on 07889 680464 / 01305 257490 – we can post tickets…

    Tickets priced at £5.00 will be on sale at Fridays Chalkstream Club, West Stafford Village Hall 7.30 pm 24th November .

    Chalkstream Club

    The Dorset Chalk Stream Club will have its first autumn social gathering in West Stafford Village hall (DT2 8AG) on Friday the 27th of October 2017 starting at 7.30pm

    Just look at another amazing evening we have lined up for you all…

    Carved and painted fish – With Ian May…

    Ian is a local Masters level AAPGAI fly fishing instructor; based in Fordingbridge, fabulous cabinet maker, photographer and of course fish carver…

    Ian will be doing a slide show and talk along with some hands on introduction to this amazing art…

    Ian has also just started carving Tim Pike’s 30lb plus recent Gaula salmon… This will be the centerpiece..



    There will also be a stand featuring a rather fine Fly Rod Builder “Tom Regula” Looking for that little treat for Christmas, check out Tom’s website –


    • Please bring a plate of good food to pop on that famous Chalkstream Club buffet table.
    • A bottle of your favourite tipple, or grab a drink from the Wise Man Inn
    • Bring along any of your unwanted tackle, flies and books to sell on the second hand tackle table, and if you would like to have a stand (FOC), just give me a ring  01305 257490 or ping me an email –
    • Please bring friends along to meet fellow Chalk stream and fly fisher folk.
    • News on meetings coming over this winter. Could you please avoid parking in the pub car park, use the village hall car park, in front of the pub or please park at our house (The Dairy House, map at the bottom of this link) just a short walk from the village.  Entrance for this winters gatherings will again be free of charge.
    • The heating and website will again be sponsored by West Dorset Foodie
    • The Dorset Wildlife Trust through the Dorset Wild Rivers Project have again very kindly sponsored the hire of the village hall for the  Dorset Chalk Stream Club

    Not sure if you saw this little piece in the echo a few weeks ago…  We laid on a lovely guided river walk for a group and this appeared a few days later 🙂

    Home Beat…. Brown Trout…

    It is true…..  No blog posts for ages, sorry but we have been so stupidly busy, which is great….  With mobile phone technology as it is with social media we have been using Twitter and Facebook as it is so quick…

    Mrs A made me take the afternoon off and we had just the most brilliant afternoon in the Wise Man, amazing food and a splash of wine and then a wonder along our “Home Beat” as slowly as possible….

    I cannot tell you how chuffed I am… Spotted this bad boy sipping down BWO’s between the weed at “split path pool” you know its a good fish when its nose comes up to eat the fly followed by its dorsal, then the tail….   Second cast after what seemed forever sneaking up on it…  On a tiny little spinner pattern….
