Fly Fishing Tackle

Just a little bit of fun… How much fishing related gear do we really need???  A once a year trip, or a total obsession… Do you have rod’s you have never cast or books you never read…..  I took this picture as A good friend of mine was setting up for a spot of guiding…. I personally think the way the whole fly fishing world is evolving is totally amazing….

Salmon Parr

A stunning little Frome Salmon Parr on one of our fish population surveys…. “When I grow up I want to be a Multi Sea Winter Fish”…..

Dorset Chalk Stream Club

The Dorset Chalk Stream Club will have it’s first winter social gathering at West Stafford Village hall on Friday the 8th November starting at 7.00pm I will post the full program very soon!

Here it is….

The format for the evening will be a totally informal celebration of the 2013 Trout season..

  • Please bring a plate of food to pop on the buffet table.
  • A bottle of your favourite tipple, or grab a drink from the Wise Man.
  • Please put a few of your photographs on a memory stick and we can put them up on a screen.
  • The usual second hand tackle table, and if you would like to have a stand, just give me a ring  01305 257490 or ping me an e mail –
  • Please bring friends along to meet fellow Chalk Stream and fly fisher folk.
  • We can put together the rest of the winter program.

The new “Watery Beat”

New for this winter is the “Watery Beat“… This short, quarter mile beat on a carrier of the Frome is only a couple of miles down stream from our famous “Home Beat”…. Possibly not fished in the last ten years… A few deep pools with a handful of monster Grayling and totally wild Brown Trout… Difficult fishing, wading, seriously quiet stalking… Not for the faint hearted…..Only available to rods staying in our self catering Annexe, one free half day per stay, I may even guide you for an hour….

Little Bridge-Watery Lane

Watch this space, exciting beats will be added for our guests in the next few weeks…… Oh and not forgetting our new Dairy House Tackle Talk video with the West Country Rivers Trust…

The club will have its first meeting in early November, I am just waiting confirmation from the village hall in West Stafford, the gathering will be a social, bring a plate of food for a buffet to celebrate this years Trout season, and if possible a memory stick with a few of your favourite fishing pictures….
