A brief Frome report

The last two or three weeks fishing on the Frome have been a challenge to say the least, what with heavy rain and rather blustery conditions, add in some rather spasmodic hatches and you get the picture.

I think some of the rods have taken refuge at home rather than venturing out on to the river, but those who have made the effort catching a few hours in between showers have spoken of marvellous sport and thick hatches of Mayfly.

The rain that we have had in the catchment over the last couple of months has now made the Frome look absolutely stunning, full to the brim for the rest of the season, held back by acres of flowering Ranunculus.

I have heard of more two pound plus wild trout being caught this season than certainly the last few, the Grayling are now in season and one angler reported seeing (not catching) eleven fish over three pounds on one of the day ticket beats.

As soon as this weather settles down we will be in for some great fishing, lovely olive hatches and happy anglers out enjoying the evening rise.

So take a look on the web and get on and book some fishing on the lovely river Frome here in Dorset…. http://eat-sleep-fish.co.uk/content/2012/06/home-waters

Electric fishing survey

Our electric fishing survey team carried out a detailed pre enhancement works fish population study on a SSSI site for the Dorset Wildlife Trust earlier this week, we were very lucky with the weather, as the rain we had that evening bought the Frome up to the top of the bank…… Himalayan   Balsam picking the following day on another site further up the Frome. www.grhe.co.uk

We have had several requests to provide fishing at a slightly discounted rate for the rest of the season, so here it is…..

So that we still have room for our guests and day ticket anglers, we are able to offer a limited number of season rod permits, for a named day a fortnight for the rest of the Trout season at £350.00 per rod, the numbers are limited to TEN and it is on a first come basis- john@riverworks.co.uk  or 01305 257490

Dairy House North Stream

A little gem, this under fished little carrier can provide some great sport…..

With  heavy rain and a cold wind, an hour or so earlier I headed out to cast a fly on the river, something I seldom do, I walked to the bottom of the Home beat, caught a couple of small ones on a parachute Adams, then crossed sheep bridge to the carrier, tied on a large Grey Wulff and had six stunning fish and missed a few more, largest about 12oz but great fun on a horrible afternoon….
