Winter Weekends

Saturday we had a great morning working on the Frome with the usual hard working souls that make the “Dorchester Fishing Club” the rather fine chalk stream club that it is today, this was followed by a rather nice dinner in the evening catching up with friends and toasting by the wood burner talking about food, food and a little fishing……….

Still No Rain….

The odd heavy shower here and there, any longer spells of rain just miss us here in Dorset, we are rapidly approaching  the end of November and our Dorset river’s are not even up to summer level, whatever that is….

The Frome in places is running crystal clear, making the Grayling fishing a real challenge, only for those true Chalkstream anglers with their total patience and love for truly wild fish in wild surroundings.

I was getting side tracked in the office, as I often do and was searching through best part of over 8000 pictures of work we have done on the Frome over the years, loads of great memories, and friends made along the way, anyway there were lots of pictures of the river in spate and lots of pictures of the river full to the brim in the early spring looking absolutly stunning, so what do we want for Christmas….Loads of RAIN……….

Not so side tracked now and on with that powerpoint presentation I am trying to put together for the Dorchester Fishing Club agm coming up in the next week or so, those of you who are members or on the waiting list might like to come along to a work party this coming Saturday morning, details on the DFC website…….

Our Self Catering Accommodation here at the Dairy House  is not just aimed at visiting anglers, we do have guests who are visiting family or just in the area, but obviously there is that bonus of having some rather nice fishing at the bottom of the garden, we are booked for Christmas but we have dates avaliable before and after…….. So if you are visiting the area, perhaps fishing other beats, come and stay with us in West Stafford.

Spawning Sea Trout

Yesterday we were out on the river doing a bit of maintanence, when totally out of the blue I heard a big fish move, sure enough there was a pair of big Sea Trout cutting a redd with the help of a couple of our local Brown Trout, the wonders of nature……..

With a little patience I managed to film several clips, which we will use, I uploaded one clip onto our you tube page, please take a look.

Dorset Wild Rivers

Just off out with the DWT under the banner of their “Wild Rivers” project, we have designed some great enhancement projects for the Dorchester Fishing Club on the river Frome and we are out measuring up and producing  plans ready for flood defence consent from the EA.

These projects will be delivered next year, but there is a fair amount of behind the scene work to do before things happen in the river!

This book is well worth a read over these dark evenings…….
